"everything is okay"

I was watching a tv show. I guess I was pretty emotionally involved so James came over to console me.

"Take deep breaths, Mom. Remember it's not real. Everything is going to be okay."

I'm glad he's such a compassionate, sensitive boy!

I like big books

James is quite the book worm. He loves his series of books that he gets from Tia ChaCha. We're still doing about 75% of the reading aloud but I know he's got mad reading skills. Spanish and English!

"Mom, I'm like that Francis kid. I'm smart and I take school seriously...wait... Am I a geek?!"

Boys

Boys everywhere. That's what it felt like on some days. And they wandered everywhere in the neighborhood. I realized my Mom had it (somewhat) easier with us girls- our Barbie play was usually contained indoors :) and that's some QUIET play.

Summer and early fall were nice because if the windows were open I could pretty much hear/see everything. Few worries.

Until you look outside and see them all running towards you. Attack!!

And they're all pointed at you...

One day I looked outside and saw HOCKEY!

"I think I like hockey more than Nerf!"

Uh... Well, that didn't last more than a day or so!

Man of the House

When Dad is away James proclaims himself the "Man of the House". When Dad's away, this Mom really appreciates everything Dad does. I needed to supervise the homework completion in the mornings--

Bath times--

We did cheat one night and we went out to dinner instead of eating at home. We call them "dates" and not cheating :)

And he turned the camera on me.

We saw a same sex couple at the restaurant and I used the opportunity to point it out, that they're also on a date and isn't that nice?

Jame said, "If I had two Dads I wouldn't get to go on dates with you!" That lead to a great conversation about how he could go on "dates" with Dad too. Dates aren't just for a boy and girl! He couldn't wait to ask his Dad about a date :)

We sent a Date selfie to Dad, all the way in London.

He doesn't look excited but he is. He loves calamari!

And Dad sent us a picture back! He's with Sonic at the Sega headquarters.

Man of the House needed to clean up his boy mess. Damn right.

I was glad to be on my game to remember school picture day. James left the house in this long sleeved "fancy" shirt..

But he took it off and had picture day in his minecraft shirt! That was not the plan. Thank goodness for retakes day!

With Jim gone it was up to me to take James to his swim lesson.

And Dairy Queen for dinner? With a pumpkin pie blizzard? No problem!

Jim came home with Sega gifts :)

We sure are glad when Dad comes home!

WJDN?

Loving on his Dad!

This just happened...

"Mom, do you think I'll be a good Dad when I grow up?"

Yes. Know why?

"Yes, because I'm kind and help people."

Yes, and you have someone showing you by example how to be a good Dad. Your Dad takes care of us, spends time with you, saves his money so you can have swim lessons, golf lessons in the summer, and nice vacations.

"I'm going to give Dad a hug!"

My Quotable Kid

Extreme guilt for not blogging lately. I'm about to leave you with some delicious treats though. The beauty, the wit, the gut-busting silliness of my son.

My sister Ana gave me an awesome little book-journal to write down James' best quotes. I believe it was for Mother's Day. I don't carry the book with me everywhere, but I am rarely without my iphone or ipad so I do my best to record them in my "Reminders" and I write them down later.

Here are the quotes I have so far.

5/11/13: Explaining to James that at the Alice in Wonderland play he will sit in between Grandma Rose and Tia ChaCha... "You mean, like a girl trap?!!"

5/12/13: "Mom, what's the biggest number?" Dad answers- Infinity! "Mom, I love you infinity. Happy Mom's Day!"

5/14/13: "También, en México hay mucho arte." (Practicing for his Cultural Festival "performance". He left bedtime to tell us he's practicing, not sleeping."

5/21/13: "Uh oh. Mom! My penis went crazy. I don't know what happened." (mess on the floor)

7/4/13: "Dad, golf is on TV." To Mom- "Dad likes to watch golf. It makes him sleep."

7/14/13: "Mom, life is complicated." What?! "I just can't get past that Mario level."

8/1/13: "Mom, I think you're a good chef. You should get a job at the Tavern." What about my students and school job? "Well... we should talk about it later."

8/2/13: "Mom, I want to own a gold mine when I'm older."

8/13/13: "¡Tú es perfecta, Mama!"

8/17/13: "Mom, I know why I won. I prayed in the car when you weren't looking." (Lego contest)

8/17/13: "I'm the man of the house cuz Dad is gone. I'm kinda in charge of you."

8/30/13: "I hid my safe during my bath. I trust you but I can't keep my eyes on you when I'm in the bath."

9/6/13: "Dad, good job on the game! Who needs Chuggaconroy?!" Dad- "Just call me ChuggaDadroy!" (Chuggaconroy is James' favorite Youtube reviewer.)

9/21/13: "I would never call the police on you. You're the best Mom ever. I wouldn't want them to lock you up and take you from our family." (Talking about why I wouldn't really steal his safe, and how it is against the law to steal..)

9/25/13: "First graders always do their best."

Sweet Baby Nene

James told me this this morning:

"Mom, I love you for two reasons.  One- you're my Mom.  Two- You are so pretty."

Yup, I'm keeping him!

Christmas is HERE!

My small child just left his bed, ran to the top of the stairs and yelled down "HO HO HO Merry Christmas!" He giggled and ran back to his room. How can you be mad at at that?!

He's got Christmas on the brain. The Rudolph song is "singing" in his head. We think Sneaky is peeking in the windows (especially when he's on the verge of naughtiness- I gasp and look at the window. What? What?! And he thinks it's Sneaky that caught my attention. Sucka.)

I blame myself for all the Christmas cheer. We had the great idea of bringing Sneaky back to his memories. We had Friday off and James went to daycare. We decorated and put up lights. We picked up James from daycare and we were all surprised by the lights.

Inside the house the lights and decorations were up (minus the tree still) and there was a note from Sneaky!

Wow. And M&M's. We can't wait to watch the show! (and it was very cute. and it's gotten a lot of play around this house since Friday!)

Tonight...

"James? I'm not James. I'm Santa James!" He seriously said that, with Blankie as his beard.

More Surprises. After talking about Rudolph singing in his head I surprised James with the show, on TV tonight! We loved the first 15 minutes and then he said he was done. Stinker. But look at his short lived joy...

"I know what the surprise is!"

"Ooooh, it's coming...!"

"I was right! Rudolph!"

Silly Nene.

Where did March go?

I'm behind on blogging again. So rather than do many little posts I'm going to just put all of my favorite pictures from the middle of March to the end below. I'll try and comment on each picture so there's some background, but they are just general cuteness.

James "helped" me make a dessert of pudding, crumbled chocolate chip cookies, and assorted toppings (whipped cream, sprinkles).

He was very serious about his sprinkles.

His Daddy enjoyed a pudding too!

I know James is my child when he shows such enthusiasm for good food. Red grapes are the best!

We're back to enjoying bath time. What a relief!

Waiting for his two stories at bedtime.

Just playin'.

"My Mommy is the best cook!" I made James a mini homemade pizza. He took a few bites, but wasn't too impressed.

We love that James is starting to do chores and understand that he has to help around the house. Here Jim is showing James how to fold towels. He loved it!

"I did it all by myself!"

James left a Batman at Grandma Rose's house so one day we received a package with this note. I love that these are the same squiggly faces that I grew up with. My Mom is famous for her little squiggly faces! "You make my heart happy!" is a James saying. Grandma Rose loved hearing that from her little man!

Playing around the house.

One day James started to pick the flowers from my hibiscus tree. In this picture he was very proud to present me with a flower. I loved it too!

Relaxing.

Before bathtime.

I don't remember why but James is crying for his Daddy in this picture. Jim was out of town, and James was asking for him.

Jersey and hat day at daycare. It occurred to me later that it was probably Twins gear but we weren't the only rebels that day. Lots of kids were in Vikings and Wild gear, not just the Twins (that fit the baseball theme of Open House Night.)

Bounce houses are fun!

James is playing "dead" with Ethan and Russell. I dislike that word coming out of his mouth!

Cute!

James told us he was going to "work" in Daddy's office. We found that he folded all of the washcloths. Yay! Huge praise that day :)

One winter day, James and I went to the playground in our snowpants.

I hate snowpants but it was worth it to see this smile!

And this one.

And his pride in climbing to the top of the climbing wall.

And then we met the other James. Another family was at the playground and we found out that the other James was also four years old!

In the car, going back home, James told me, "Mommy, that boy was James too. He was four years old too. And he's a heartbreaker." Haha. I think James has heard others calling HIM a heartbreaker so many times (because of his beautiful eyes), that maybe he just thinks all James' should be heartbreakers!

Funny- on the potty with goggles!

I took a picture of the day's journal entry. Each day the kids practice their letter or number of the day, and their names.

Meow! Cute artwork that I've promised to Tia Kiki.

There is no such thing as taking too many pictures of my adorable son! I hope this blog entry wasn't too overwhelming.
