RIP Blankie, Really, This Time for Real!

James "lost" Blankie a few days ago. We found him but haven't told James. We have made the best parental decision to keep Blankie away. He is a disgusting, stringy, tiny heap of torn fabric. James had been putting Blankie in his mouth lately, and even though I kept telling him to stop I'd find him sucking on Blankie. Ick.

So lately Curious George has been his companion at bedtime. Fine by us!

It hasn't been a big deal for James. Maybe 6 1/2 is a magical time.

Tough opponent

Blankie played a mean game of Garbage.

One Valentine surprise- Blankie! Yes, it was missing AGAIN! Jim wrapped it up as a gift, AGAIN.

Jim/Dad went all out with a surprise dinner. Pink champagne for Mom!

Jacks for James!

And chocolate chip cookies for dessert! Best day ever!

Blankie: Found, AGAIN

Soon after Christmas we lost Blankie again. I don't remember where he was this time, but he was found again.

BLANKIE DOES NOT DIE.

Bedtime pals

With the loss of Blankie James focused his attention on his stuff pals. Mostly Curious George.

One night at bedtime I found him "reading" his book with an audience.

State of the Blankie

HUGE UPDATE!
BLANKIE IS LOST!!!

We had several places to go on Sunday and somewhere, sometime Blankie vanished.  We have backtracked and called the different places but nothing.

R.I.P. Blankie!

James has two ideas, however:  1.  put up Lost posters "all over Minnesota" 2.  Write a letter to Santa to tell him to have Rudolph look for Blankie, you know, "since he has a shiny nose"

It's been two nights now without Blankie. James is doing fine.  He hasn't given up hope though.

We are NOT replacing Blankie, so please do not try and replace him.  James is six years old and I'm just the tiniest bit okay with the loss of Blankie.  It has been a constant struggle to keep track of Blankie.  I'm also concerned that Blankie was a hygiene issue!

So, again, R.I.P Blankie.  You served us well.

Original post from October 9th, 2012----

I remember introducing Blankie to James. We were struggling with sleeping through the night and I had read advice about adding a "lovey" to your child's routine. Blankie was given to James by my friend Christa, I remember that. It was a part of a newborn set of an outfit, hat, and booties.

Blankie looks so pristine and bright here in the summer of 2007. (My note: wow! Blankie had stripes?! and color?! And Pooh!)

Summer of 2008. Blankie is still loved and carried everywhere. (My note: Even here I wish Blankie had been accidentally on purpose "lost"!)

2009. James went through a chewing stage. Well past teething, but it was a comforting thing for him to suck on Blankie. Blankie is taking on the brown/gray color that is now familiar to us. (My note: OMG. SO freaking gross.)

Summer of 2010. Blankie is still pretty whole. (My note: I'm still in disbelief that Blankie has lasted this long.)

Summer of 2011. Blankie becomes gross. He has lost his satin edge and is a brown rag. We find Blankie gross and James loves to drape Blankie on resisting people. Here he tortures Grandma Rose with a kiss. (My note: We were washing Blankie every few days at this point. Especially after I learned that Blankie spent some time in the daycare trash. An unknowing staff member threw away Blankie, thinking It a piece of trash. Another in-the-know staff member rescued Blankie. Darn. Her.)

October 2012. The State of Blankie is that he has done fallen apart. He is a rag. A brown rag. Little pieces fall off every so often and James saves them for Grandma Rose. She is a trooper. She has a little box at her house that she keeps pieces of Blankie in. (My note: Better her than me.) In this picture Blankie has ripped in half. He is hanging by a thread. Since this picture I have knotted the two separate halves together. He is a bundle of Blankie now. Blankie is not allowed at Kindergarten. (My note Part 2: I don't want anyone to tease James about Blankie!)

Blankie DOES NOT DIE. I miss Pooh.

Memories

There was a day earlier this month that I was home sick. I actually got bored and was feeling better so I started to clean. My way of cleaning is to organize. I don't do well with toilets, floors, etc. I would much rather go through stuff and sort. Throw away.

But not this stuff. I can't get rid of baby things. I mean, strollers and things like that we've given to friends or Goodwill. But these things are memories. Great baby memories :)

I started with the chest in James' room.

Baby onesies from my baby shower. James actually wore these, you can tell my the spit-up stains on the neck!

"I'm Bringing Sexy Back"

His first pairs of shoes. The penguin soft shoes were his first pair ever (Kiki). The boots were just awesome (ChaCha). And the brown shoes were his first walking shoes. My Mom kept insisting on Stride Rite shoes so I did get them. I was horrified to pay $35 for such little shoes, but I did. I'm glad.

His coming home outfit, complete with a (clean) newborn diaper. Seriously the tiniest little thing. Awwwww.

I'm saving his best, cutest art projects and papers. I'm putting them in one large pile for now. I should probably figure out how to organize this a bit better.

His first toys, bits of Blankie, and other little mementos.

A beautiful collection of handknit blankets and knit hats. I lined them up from his newborn sizes to toddler. They are all beautiful but I really loved the last two hats- the Elmer Fudd and Penguin hats. So freaking awesome. Thanks Tia ChaCha!

These felt guys have snaps on the backs, they snapped to the coordinating onesies. I love these things.

Back when James was called "the next Tiger Woods" we bought him this little PGA polo shirt and souvenir golf club from Seaport Village, San Diego.

Tia Kiki gave James these really cool soccer jerseys a few years ago. From Japan? Well, he's going to look so handsome in them this summer. He'll finally be the right size! (We haven't forgotten about them, Kiki!)

This definitely is NOT in the trunk but this is the cool blanket that James received for his birthday from Tia ChaCha and Uncle Rich. That ChaCha is so talented!

It looks great in his room. And he uses it every night!

I also cleaned the rest of the room. Dried up playdough got thrown away, stuffed animals were put away (he doesn't really play with them), books put back on the shelf, clothes sorted.

It made me very happy!

Sneaky the Pool Shark

When James and I come home from work/school he right away looks for Sneaky. See, Sneaky moves around during the day too. He usually just sits somewhere, but doesn't do anything too mischievous.

But on this day he was nowhere to be found. We found some clues though...

James' pool cue case at the top of the stairs??

Pool balls leading down the stairs??

Sneaky!  Playing pool!!  James was so surprised.  He hadn't ventured down to the Man Cave until now.  I hope he doesn't get too comfortable down there :)  Good job, Dad!

And then while dinner is being made, or James is busy playing, I sneak around and grab Sneaky under my shirt and place him really discreetly- sometimes right in front of James!  James was sitting right next to my chair, playing, and didn't even notice Sneaky for a few minutes.  By that time I was busy cooking dinner and so it was obvious that Sneaky is magical and moves on his own!

And he swiped Blankie!  James very carefully took Blankie back, careful not to touch Sneaky and take away his magic.

Who would want Blankie??!!
