Energized

James has never been a kid to wear hats, costumes, sing, dance, or really just put himself out there. (He did the occasional magic show that surprised the heck out of me though!)

So when I picked him up from school daycare a few days ago, and he was wearing these bunny ears I was a little shocked. If you pay too much attention to something, with this little boy, I've learned he'll stop doing it. So I didn't say much about the ears.

We ate out that night because it was just James and me, and it was going to be a busy night because of karate.

He did take the ears off for karate. He probably knew they wouldn't approve. Ruin their rep!

But I took this picture at home. How can he look so cute and dangerous at the same time?? 🐇

Cuddling during his nightly show.

Karate

We are trying our first month of karate. If all goes well James will be a regular!

So far, so good. It was my first time taking James so I didn't quite know what was going on. We showed up at our time and I hoped for the best.

James began by stretching.

The spectator area was so very far away from the younger kids. Towards the front were the older, or more advanced belts. They were QUITE LOUD with their grunts and hay-ya's!

I took the pictures I could but I knew I wouldn't be taking pictures very often. It was just too hard to capture any moments.

I caught a picture through the reflections of the mirror.

Learning to throw punches.

At the end they line up and chant the motto. I didn't catch what it was. James doesn't know either- he just pretends to say it :)

I caught several moments on video. James is in the distance in the videos.

Practice makes perfect

Practicing some karate moves on Dad.

Don't hurt Dad!

Time with Dad

I had to work late (parent/teacher conferences) and I received the following picture in a text message. The boys had a fun night!

James had his first karate class! Respectful bow.

Earlier in the week they also had a fun Dad/Son time raking leaves! With the rest of the neighborhood, I guess.

Tuesdays with Mommy in October

One Tuesday I went through James' closet and found this Japanese outfit. I called them "Karate Pajamas" and James was sold on wearing it!

Thank you to Tia Kiki for the karate pajamas! (I'm pretty sure they were from her?)

Ninjas

It's not very often that I get to catch James in action while playing. When I arrive at his daycare class, if a kid spies me they'll shout out, "James, your mooooooom is here!" And then James stops whatever he is doing, runs to me, and hurls himself into my arms for a hug while yelling, "Mom!!!" It's actually quite nice :)

But on this day I found James on the far end of the playground, looking like he was play fighting with another boy. Turns out they were playing "Ninjas". I wonder if they were using their learned karate moves?

They demonstrated a few moves for me.

Karate Kid

James had the same reservations about Karate as he did with Spanish.  He all of a sudden stopped wanting to go.  Well, WE didn't want to let Karate go so Dad (Jim) decided to pay a visit to the class to pump up the jam!

These videos are from a few weeks ago now but they're still pretty funny to watch.  James had Karate class yesterday and told us that he is just one "stripe" away from his Gold Belt!  (I guess they need a certain number of classes under their belt before they advance to the next.)
