Day Off

It was a day off from school, for both James and myself, but I found a need to get to my school to do one last little thing. James was a trooper and came along.

He's always very polite when he meets the people at my building. The school secretaries just gush over him. And his eyelashes, of course.

He'd been wanting to meet my principal for a while. He had already but he doesn't remember. He wanted to discuss his mom's work hours- he says that I work too much and that I go to work too early in the morning. It is too dark when I leave!

My principal wasn't there but we did run into one of the assistant principals, Mr. Dahl. Mr. Dahl is a known wise ass and when James told him about our dilemma he had quite a chuckle. He made some choice comments about the work that I do and that I get plenty of breaks, so don't worry kid!

Oh well. Off to McDonald's!

I don't know about this pose. I think he was just trying to be funny.

His hair was getting quite long so we went for a haircut. We then went to Hans bakery for a reward.

Mmmmmmm Texas donut. We snagged the last two. I think the people behind me were pretty disappointed!

So when we got home James dug into his donut. I casually asked Jim if he had an easy day at work. He looked at me like I was crazy and said, I had the day off. I didn't know he had the day off! When I left the house he was on his laptop, like you see in the background of this picture. If I had known he had the day off I don't think I would've run all those errands I did and maybe we could've done something as a family though I am sure that Jim enjoyed his time to himself though :)

Thief

Self-imposed timeout after I caught him sneaking and eating a mint Oreo cookie from the pantry. I heard the rustlings, ask for a hug, smelled the cookie, and asked what was in his pocket. Poor little guy couldn't even lie-- just hung his head down. #eatyourdinner

Renaissance Festival, early September 2014

Oh just looking at these blue skies and sun makes me wish for summer already.

Jim and I hold the Renaissance Festival close to our hearts- one of our best first dates way back in 2001. James wasn't even a twinkle in our eyes! But it was nice to experience this with him. We told him beforehand that the Festival is much like Minecraft- weapons, villagers, blacksmiths, etc. He wasn't disappointed.

Well, at first he was whiny. We arrived there at the gate opening. We had to wait briefly and we were all impatient. And crowded.

We found the quirky villagers right away. Pickle salesman had these buttons.

James spied a treat he just HAD TO have. Cookie ice cream sandwich.

We sat for an exciting fire show. James doesn't look too excited but he perked up.

On to the weapons! James got a sword and holster.

Tried his luck at the kiddie games. Frog catapults here.

And we spied a gnome! #gnomebomb

When we ran into these guardsmen James was better armed- he just bought a rubber band crossbow.

This character kinda creeped me out. He was very nice to James.

Our adventurous boy wanted to climb this tower. Yup, that'd be great!

He didn't make it all the way up but we were impressed by his effort.

I think maybe he got another kind of education here- this young lady was showing quite a bit!

I'd say he made it halfway up.

More catapults.

And crossbow shooting.

And strongman efforts. Pretty cute.

It was quite the day! We had a lot of family fun :)

Father's Day 2014

You have to start a special day with gifts!

Not Lego, but an off-brand Vikings set!

And special pancakes!

Served by the best son in the world!

Yoda pancake for James.

We let Dad relax on this day. James kept himself busy playing Plants vs Zombies. (Yuck.)

But he looks so darn cute with James Jr.!

Letting Dad relax some more, I took James to the park. It was the first time we rode bikes together! He still had the training wheels on at this point, but they've come off since though he refuses to try.

And back home...

"Thank you for being my Dad."
