Man Cave

The Legos have been abandoned for a while now...

(sad)

It's all about video games. And he likes to play shirtless. I guess he gets sweaty?!

James has kinda taken over the Man Cave. Jim has to schedule time on his own TV! Slight exaggeration :)

Family night

There is a house in our neighborhood that goes all out with Christmas lights. This year there was a general invitation for the Lakes community to join them at their house lighting. Hot chocolate, cookies, and homebrewed beer for the adults. It was just a quick walk, but it was pretty dang cold.

The house before the lighting--

Kids were playing in the snow, wrestling. James joined but then ended up twisting his arm. Or someone twisted it. We never really figured it out. He was fine.

The house lit up---

We oooh'd and ahhhhh'd and then made our way home shortly after. It really was super cold outside. My hands were starting to hurt even though I had two pairs of mittens on!

We got home and discovered that Charlie Brown Thanksgiving would be on TV. We snuggled up on the couch and watched together. James took our selfie.

Watching Gold Rush on TV with Dad. It's one of Dad's favorite shows.

WJDN?

He's snug as a bug in a rug, watching the Electric Company. It's definitely a lazy day. I wouldn't expect anything more from me!

Charlie Brown & the Shermie dance

I caught James dancing "like Shermie" each time he watched the Charlie Brown Christmas episode. So funny!

Good Day

It's always a good, even great day, with this kid. Such a good kid!

He's been eager to show us his spelling and math skills. He notices letters and sounds as we drive, as we read books, as he's watching TV. Everywhere he impresses us with his new Spanish skills.

One day he decided to show me that he does know how to spell something. I was cooking (or something) and when I turned around he had spelled out chacha. Like Tia ChaCha! He learned about the "Ch" sound at school that day, he told me.

Good work!

Later that day he reverted back to being a baby. Just kidding. He was mimicking Linus as we watched Charlie Brown Christmas :)

Randoms

Naked fish feeding. Don't know why.

"Mom, you're the best cooker."

I taught James how to mop. I think Jim was amazed that there was cleaning going on!

James watched the Brady Bunch episode called the Hustler. James was fascinated.

Moments with Dad

Sometimes I like to capture those cute moments, on the spot. I don't know why these both involve this blanket but...

James insisted that they needed to snuggle and watch Doc McStuffins.

And then for some reason they are reading a book under a blanket. Hey, whatever works!

Day 4 in Orlando, A Day of Rest

We meant to avoid the crowds at the major parks but Jim also figured we'd need a rest after so much hustle and bustle. I was very glad for the idea by the time Sunday came around. We decided that we would make a day of hanging out at the hotel, namely the pools! James was all over swimming!

We went down to the pool after breakfast. I didn't take pictures because I didn't want the phone/camera to get wet. But it was fun! We explored three of the resort's FIVE pools. Our hotel pool ended up being our favorite. One pool was pirate ship themed and the other pool had a lazy river (with inner tubes).

James was very cute and reviewed all of his swimming skills with us in the pool. He practiced his back float, his "cannonball", and even tried jumping into the pool from a sitting position. He was getting mighty brave! He also gave Jim and myself some lessons! He pretended to be the swimming teacher and told us what to do. It was funny.

After lunch the boys went back to the pool. I sat it out. I took a few pictures from our hotel window.

Jim and James are in between the trees. Can you see them?

Zoomed in. James is doing his back float!

And finally, he is riding on his Dad's back.

And then they spotted me! Waving!

We thought James would be wiped out after all that exercise. Nope! He was ready to play and "stay up late like grownups". We ignored a lot of bedtimes during vacation. He stayed up pretty late, played Legos, and watched TV with us.

Here we are watching the Olympics and USA just won a gold medal!

James admiring himself in the mirror.

Another fun day!

Farmer James

When I bought my basil plants I thought James would enjoy a small tomato plant. (There's a cute Oswald episode that he loves.) Turned out he really wanted a huge hanging basket of tomatoes. We bought it, thinking it was a good, healthy investment :)

Each day James looks to see if there are any red tomatoes to be picked.

We had so many tomatoes at one point that I needed to find a recipe for them. I found that you can make salsa out of cherry tomatoes! Yummy.

What a great harvest!

December 6- Sneaky

I found a Sneaky sized tree at Michael's and I decorated it with mini ornaments. How lucky that they were all 50% off!

James liked that he was able to finish with the star on top. He did the same for our big tree so I know he likes to consider that HIS job.

So I had my mini tree and Sneaky all ready when Jim decided that Sneaky was bringing James a gift. We bought the DVD and book from the TV show that James LOVED LOVED LOVED last year. The Prep and Landing elves! I tell James that Sneaky must be friends with them, but they have different jobs.

It's a cute show. They just aired a new one on Monday and we've enjoyed it but the first one is definitely our favorite.

James took the book to daycare yesterday because he just wanted it close and left it in his locker. They did end up reading it to the entire class :) He is insisting that I read it to the class next week, when I am signed up to volunteer/read. The teacher said repetition is good and the kids would just love that someone new is reading. I'm the first parent to volunteer (I signed up for the very first spot!), and I don't know why but it's making me anxious. Will 20+ 5 year olds listen to me?! I guess it can't be worse than middle school :) :) :)
