Lunch with Mom, end of year

I missed chaperoning a fieldtrip due to my SB trip so I promised James a special lunch. Of course he requested McDonald's!

James' friend Clayton took this picture of us. Not really focused but good!

Sam and James! I regret that we didn't get Sam's contact information for summer play dates. Oh well.

James was disappointed that I didn't stay for recess but he quickly ran off and forgot all about me!

WJDN?

He is enjoying a playdate with his bestie Dane! Dane lives just down the street so this is the second play date of the winter break. This time we are hosting Dane at our house.

The traditional pose with Darth.

Lunch. Dane is pickier than James, so this was a "snack" for him.

And at this very moment they are playing a very enthusiastic game of Wii tennis!

Good times.

Fancy Golf & Lunch date

There is a golf course at the Minneapolis Sculpture garden. We'd been wanting to take James because he loves a good mini golf course. It was a beautiful day, I felt like summer was coming to an end, so we went.

There had to be a Cherry Spoon pic. I wanted to shoo those people away, but eh. Whatever.

This golf outing was pretty expensive. It really is a one-time only experience. The course was pretty creative and amazing though. Lots of thought went into it, lots of artist contribution. Some of it went over James' head. He just wanted to GOLF.

This hole was a play on perspective. Like an Alice in Wonderland little room.

Funny faces. Gotta love 'em.

Oh no! #gnomebomb!

A nice picture with my beautiful son!

After lunch we headed to Rye Deli in Uptown. I just bought a fabulous Groupon that morning and I was happy they took it soon. We feasted. Really. I said no to nothing. There is a giant cookie in the picture to prove that :)

On the way home we decided to make his Dad happy and vaccum out the car. Ha! I think James earned 50 cents for that.

Another great day with my James!

More Lunches

I haven't been taking pictures every day any more. The meals are starting to repeat.

I'm involving James, as much as I can, in the food decisions. He goes with me to the grocery stores and he picks out his treats. The juice pouches are the ones with less sugar (and vegetable juices), the apple cider has no added sugar, the shredded cheese he picks out, he always loves strawberries, and I'll buy the occasional treat like Cheetos, Angry Birds cheese crackers, etc. I don't love those purchases but in small quantities James does okay with them :)

I'm still using the tools that I have- cookie cutters, food picks, cute containers, etc.

Rolled up ham, shredded cheese, bell pepper and tomatoes with ranch dressing (in cute rabbit orange container), strawberries, juice pouch.

Cooked chicken pieces and bell peppers with ranch dressing, shredded cheese, strawberries, juice pouch, and Scrabble chocolate for a surprise!

Pasta and sauce, natural applesauce cup, apple cider, yogurt stick, and Scrabble chocolate. Pretzels for snack.

Breakfast for lunch! Chocolate chip pancake balls, scrambled eggs (James decided he wasn't a fan of cold eggs), strawberries, juice pouch, and Chocolate money for a surprise. Fruit snacks and Cheetos for a snack.

Spaghetti and sauce, apple slices, juice pouch, and Cheetos. Goldfish for a snack.

Car Peanut Butter Sandwich (cookie cutter!), natural applesauce cup, juice pouch, chocolate money, goldfish. Angry Birds crackers for snacks.

Tortellini (James pick) and sauce, yogurt cup, strawberries, juice pouch. Banana for snack.

Mickey Mouse PB sandwich, pudding cup, mandarin oranges, juice pouch, and Panda cookies for a surprise! The Panda cookies are from World Market, they are chocolate filled cookies.

Chocolate chip pancake balls, hard boiled egg (James decided he likes!), strawberries, and Panda cookies for a surprise. This was James' first day to buy chocolate milk. We put his PIN number in his pocket and hoped a kind adult would help him.

Star Wars PB sandwiches, strawberries, juice pouch, yogurt stick, and mini chocolate cupcakes for a surprise!

Tomorrow's lunch- Chocolate chip pancake balls, hard boiled egg (heart shaped! Another Bento toy from Tia Kiki :), strawberries, shredded cheese, natural apple juice, and chocolate balls for a surprise! Pretzels for snack.

Jim has put together a few lunches now too. Sometimes I get lazy :)

First Day of Kindergarten, Part 2

Both Jim and I picked up James from his after-school daycare program. He ran to us excitedly and told us he had a great day! Yay!

Not a scratch on him :)

We went out to dinner to celebrate his first day of Kindergarten. James confessed that he did cry once. He said he thought he lost his teacher and so he cried just for a little bit. We were confused by what this meant, and was he really lost? Well, we did the best that we could about telling him to ask for help next time.

And then we went out for an ice cream cone. Quite the celebration!

James called his Grandma Rose from the car. He excitedly told her about his entire day.

And he also called Grandma Laura. It's so nice to see him hold real conversations with his Grandmas, and to hear again that he had a great day!

He told us that he made two friends today. He doesn't know their names. He was playing with one of the friends at the after-school daycare so maybe I'll ask the boy tomorrow about his name. It was cute because the boy told James, "Goodbye Friend!"

Each day James will carry home a folder with handouts, homework, or artwork from the day. These are today's handouts.

"I survived the First Day of Kindergarten!"

"My first day of Kindergarten..." James said this is a picture of himself holding an envelope. !

The weekly newsletter from Señora Kennedy.

Westood newsletter.

And finally tomorrow's lunch. My sister Kristina gave me tons of little lunch tools from her time in Japan. I made tiny peanut butter sandwiches, cut out cheese shapes with space-themed cutters, and put fruit on toothpicks. Tomorrow's surprise in the black Lego box- a gummy worm! Tomorrow morning we'll put ice packs on the food to keep it cool. I freeze his juice pouch (not pictured) and that helps keep everything cold too.

The goldfish crackers are for his morning snack. That gets packed separately in his backpack pocket.

It is fun (so far) to be all cutesy with these lunches!

We are so grateful that James had a good day! He didn't say too much about his day, except that he had THREE recesses :) We know there is a morning recess for 15 minutes and then an after lunch recess for another 15 minutes. I would guess the third recess is the after-school daycare time. Whatever, he loves recess. Typical kid who says that recess is the best part of the day!!!
