We are trying our first month of karate. If all goes well James will be a regular!
So far, so good. It was my first time taking James so I didn't quite know what was going on. We showed up at our time and I hoped for the best.
James began by stretching.
The spectator area was so very far away from the younger kids. Towards the front were the older, or more advanced belts. They were QUITE LOUD with their grunts and hay-ya's!
I took the pictures I could but I knew I wouldn't be taking pictures very often. It was just too hard to capture any moments.
I caught a picture through the reflections of the mirror.
Learning to throw punches.
At the end they line up and chant the motto. I didn't catch what it was. James doesn't know either- he just pretends to say it :)
I caught several moments on video. James is in the distance in the videos.

Blaine's Flashlight Pumpkin Hunt
We really went all in for Halloween/Fall this year. Two events in the same weekend!?
James dressed warmly and in costume for the night. We parked our car and walked over to Aquatore Park in Blaine. The first person we see? GEORGE! The boys greeted each other, as they always do, with loud exclamations and hugs :)
200 kids were there to search by flashlight for their pumpkin to take home! James found his quickly and we carried it around for the next hour.
It was suprisingly very cold! There were arts and crafts, a family dance (James refused to dance), bingo, smores, and hot chocolate.
The dance-
And the knocked out child at the end of the night!

Pumpkin Patch 2012
We love our pumpkin patch outings.
Jim found a new one for us, all the way in Wyoming, MN.
It was a cute little patch.
Excuse my big hair. It was a low-maintenance day.
Spooky (but cute) "graveyard".
We headed out the pumpkin fields to find our pumpkins.
Were we too late in the season?
We ended up going back to the entrance and picking out some pre-picked pumpkins.
James found his baby pumpkin. He always picks out a baby pumpkin.
I think this is a picture from his first pumpkin patch :)
And here's another one.
He's such a big boy now!

SI Family Fun Night
Last week we attended the Spanish Immersion program's Family Fun night. The kids were encouraged to dress in their costumes for lots of fun!
James decided to be an ARF Clone Trooper for Halloween. He wasn't able to bring his blaster to the school event. No weapons allowed.
There was a carriage ride for the kids.
James' friend Henry was on the same ride with him. What fun!
There was a big open space for the kids to run around and have fun. The boy in the green is James' neighbor friend Clayton.
James actually participated in all of the carnival-like games in the gymnasium. He usually doesn't like them. He did well at all of them!
Bowling.
Balancing on top of creepy spiders and webs!
Floor hockey.
It was fun to get out and be a part of the school!

Accident
Jim received a frantic call from the school last week that James had a playground accident was bleeding quite a bit. I volunteered to leave my work to get James. I promised to call/message Jim with immediate details. We were worried about him needing stitches, that a tooth was knocked loose, and also just whether he was frantic or not.
He was fine! The nurse said she didn't think he needed stitches. Also, the tooth that is loose is a baby tooth. It is quite possible that the tooth was already loose.
James fell on the playground equipment as he was climbing. I think that he bit down on his lip, causing the bleeding. He had a big scab for about a week.
I called the dentist and they confirmed that it is a baby tooth and really, there isn't much to be done.
James healed nicely and the scab has already fallen off. He is back to his usual very, very dry lips. Chapstick should be his BFF.

Time with Dad
I had to work late (parent/teacher conferences) and I received the following picture in a text message. The boys had a fun night!
James had his first karate class! Respectful bow.

Earlier in the week they also had a fun Dad/Son time raking leaves! With the rest of the neighborhood, I guess.
Mom's Birthday
For my birthday my boys took me out to dinner. We went to Benihana's in Maple Grove for our special night out. We hoped James would enjoy the chef's show of grilling up our food! James did like it! The chef was very kind and performed several things just for James.
James also enjoyed chopsticks! We didn't know he would do so well with them. He insisted on taking them home :)
Such a fun evening! Thank you, my Boys :)

Tuesdays with Mommy in October
One Tuesday I went through James' closet and found this Japanese outfit. I called them "Karate Pajamas" and James was sold on wearing it!
Thank you to Tia Kiki for the karate pajamas! (I'm pretty sure they were from her?)

Dentist Part 2
James had to go back to the dentist to get his 6 year molars sealed. There was a lot of awkward tooth pillows inserted into his mouth and he kinda freaked. I almost think it was near anxiety attack! We had to take a break midway through, to let him breathe. He also gasped once and sucked down one of the little tooth guards/pillows. I thought he was going to choke!
I didn't make a big deal of it. Just told him that most dental visits wouldn't be like that. I hope he won't be afraid to go to the dentist in the future...
