Fun Saturday
JIm heard about this Lego event at Pottery Barn Kids and we just had to go. We waited in line to enter the store, since there would be a limited supply of Lego supplies for the name plate activity.
James entertained us while we waited. He's such a great kid.
There was a line to get in and we were quickly herded to the back where there were little tables of Legos and letter guidelines. James and Dad quickly got to work and made James' nameplate.
Good work!
James had some money burning a hole in his pocket so we went to Target to scope out the toys.
I like this picture because they look like Twins! Same stride, same style.
And a little more fun... Snuffy's Malt Shop for lunch! So good!
Surely we had more fun that day but that's all I took pictures of :) It's always a fun day when I'm with my boys!

School Party
James' classroom earned their first party at the beginning of the month. The teacher put out a request for last minute parent volunteers so I made myself available.
The kids were able to dress for a Pajama Day too. So fun!
I joined the class for the ice cream and cupcake party. I didn't have to do much but scoop ice cream, so it was an easy gig.
James was quite excited to have me there. There were three other parents and we were all greeted with enthusiastic hugs from our children. It was one of the first volunteer opportunities and I was glad to make the time for it. I hope to be in the classroom as often as I can!
The kids were able to dress for a Pajama Day too. So fun!

For You, Sweet Baby Nene
Happy Birthday James!
On James' actual birthday day, as if we could possibly celebrate ANY MORE, we did! James took mini cupcakes to school to celebrate with his classroom.
I was interested to see the class in action as we arrived at the school. I watched James go through the motions.
He went right to his locker to put away his coat, backpack, hat, etc. He took out his Daily Folder, library book, and lunchbox.
First, James put his library book in the classroom bin. I guess they get returned all at the same time.
James did all this without my help or even without a word to me. I just watched. When he was all done he sat quietly at a table with some kids and got to work on some coloring sheets, that the teacher had already laid out.
I gave him a quick kiss goodbye and said another Happy Birthday! Again, it was pretty interesting to see all 25+ kids do that process, it was like a busy ant hill!
Later that night James received a FaceTime call from Tia ChaCha and Uncle Rich. iPhones have an option to use FaceTime, which is like a video call. iPads can also receive the FaceTime calls so we used the iPad for a bigger picture. James had a great time seeing his familia and receiving their birthday wishes :)

He had left his lunchbox on the floor by his "locker" so he went back and put the lunchbox in the big bin of "cold lunches". All of the kids have a laminated index card hanging on the wall and he put his card in the "Cold Lunch" folder. The index card also has the student's Lunch Pin Number on it, so I'm thinking the hot lunch kids still carry the card to the cafeteria to help them with their Pin Number.
The Daily Folder went to the mailboxes. I guess this makes sense. The kids put the folders there for the para-educators to stuff later with the daily announcements, worksheets, and coloring sheets.

Bus Stop
One morning I had the privilege to stand with James at his bus stop. It's usually SuperDad's job.
He gave me this look...
But seconds later gave me the sweetest hug and kiss goodbye. I was so glad because the one other time I stood at the bus stop with him he told me, "Mom, all the other kids say I'm in love with you." (He always says he is, so I didn't see the big deal with this.) He was basically telling me that he can't be in love with me in front of the other kids :( :( I was super sad.
But I guess now it's okay :) So all is well in the Force.

6th Birthday with Family
You know me, any chance to make a cupcake and I'm there. But for my James? And my sister Ana (who shared her special day with us)? Anything for them!
We had our local family over for a brunch, but we missed Tia Kiki, Tio Berto, Grandpa Frank, Grandma Julie, and Grandpa Larry (who was out of town for the weekend). James is a very loved boy and we felt their love and generosity despite the distance :)
And oh the presents. Too many presents. It was like Christmas! And everyone was so thoughtful.
And they know this boy. Hiding dollars in his gifts. He loves those dollars!
He received this Pokemon binder from his Tia ChaCha and Uncle Rich. He spent a long, long time carefully putting each card in the sleeves. He is so proud! 219 cards. I'm not even sure where he got them all...
A little later, snuggling with his Pokemon cards and his new Star Wars blanket that Tia made.
And several hours later a Lego creation was born. A four headed Ninjago dragon!
And do you like my new foyer/living room decor??
Gracias to our familia for everything. James loves you!

6th Birthday Party with Kids
Total excitement around here when the birthday party day finally arrived. James could not contain his excitement!!
We invited about 10 of his friends, from New Horizon, his kindergarten class, and his after school program (a few of the boys are kindergarteners too, but not in his classroom).
We ended up having 8 little friends show up. That's a great turnout! And they all did RSVP, which is another small miracle. We were prepared to pay for more kids, and we had plenty of treat bags, but we just didn't know what to expect.
So, the party was at Brunswick and it was COSMIC BOWLING! HOW COOL! But it didn't make for good pictures :)
The kids got right to bowling.
The "Party Hero" (the worker assigned to us) gave us several breaks for games, cake, pizza, and then finally presents.
Here the kids are doing the limbo. Good ol' Grandma Rose got right in there and played with the kids. I was perfectly content to take pictures and video :) :) :)
Birthday Limbo.
OMG. The Chicken Dance.
I did jump in for the last minute of the Chicken Dance. I can honestly say that was the first (and last) time I intentionally did the Chicken Dance. I wanted to live in that moment, no matter how dorky!
James refused pizza until he was hand fed. Spoiled little guy!
Later this night, when I looked at the pictures, I started counting the kids... OMG I lost two of them temporarily! Turned out that Ali wasn't there yet (he came later) but Russell snuck off. Looking through the hundred or so pictures that I took Russell showed up a minute later. He is sneaky, that little guy.

Another Party Hero came over and gave James a birthday crown (temporarily) and then made an announcement for the entire bowling alley to hear..

The friends were VERY generous. James is truly a lucky boy!

Brunswick gave James a great souvenir! All of his friends signed this REAL bowling pin that he gets to keep!
We exclaimed many, many times that this was the best birthday party we've ever been to. The bowling alley took great care of us and the 90 minutes flew by! There was lots to do and it was pretty well controlled. Well, except for Russell.
