Stay at Home days

James lives for weekends. He calls them stay at home days.

Stay at home days are filled with Lego play, errands, family visits, and some times cool outings. On this day it was a beautiful day and we ended up playing outside a bit.

Lego play first.

He is doing so well on his bike! We aren't forcing the helmet yet. We've mentioned that when he gets really good at the bike and rides without Mom or Dad at his side, that the helmet will be needed. There is a helmet fitting at the City Hall later this month. We figure that might be the right time to introduce it to our learning.

 

Later in the day James was feeling pretty brave, or maybe he was entranced with the bounce house, but he asked his Dad if they could go over to the neighbor's house and play. These are neighbors that we know well enough so it wasn't too awkward to just go over.

 

 

Saving our pennies

James had his dental check up in March. He insisted on bringing his Lego Star Wars book inside the waiting room.

The dental visit went normally. There are no worries that he has lost three baby teeth already. The main worry is that his adult teeth will come in and be overcrowded. We have now been warned that braces may be in James' future. Jim kinda expected this, since he had braces in his youth.

I don't worry too much. I see braces on the middle school kids and it doesn't seem like a big deal anymore. Kids actually enjoy the different colors on their teeth! I think they've advanced quite a bit since Jim had them.

No cavities! The dentist recommended an electric toothbrush for James so we went right out and bought one. A new Star Wars one :)

Money, Money, Money

James stayed at Grandma Rose's house for a weekend and came away a richer boy. He helped rake leaves and pick up twigs (for a campfire though :) and earned a few dollars.

I found him on the swing when I pulled up. This boy loves a good swing!

On the way home that money was a burning a hole in his pocket. I agreed to go to Target to find a "small Lego". I was very pleased that James stuck to his budget and was happy with the little Ninjago booster pack. No crying, no whining = happy Mom.

New Bike!

I may have already posted pictures of James on his new bike but here is the maiden voyage.

 

He caught on pretty quickly but he still lacks the confidence to do it completely by himself. He needs help getting over curbs and down the driveway but we have all summer to perfect his skills :)

Crazy about the Zoo

We do really love the Zoo. We have become members again because we hope to go often enough to make it worth it. I think James discovers something new each time or we find a different area to enjoy. This time the new experience was the dolphin show. James LOVED IT. It's a very short program, but it was perfect for us.

He got a little cranky towards the end but it was a lot of walking. He did well overall :)

We ended the day with a relaxing monorail ride around the Zoo. It's really a beautiful Zoo.

 

Spring Break

On one of my Spring Break days we went all over the city. We went out to lunch and James was a good sport about trying something new. A pizza sandwich at Potbelly!

I had hoped that the ponies would be out at the Bunker Stables but no. We didn't even spy any of them. James did find this cool saddle on a log and he loved pretending. He has agreed to go back and try a pony ride though! That could be fun :)

But he turned sad. He told me, "There's no one to play with..." It was surprising that there weren't more kids around on such a beautiful day. This moment only lasted a brief moment. And then we had fun together.

 

 

 

Swimming

Lesson are still going well! This is from almost a month ago.

James prides himself on holding his breath for a long time. It scares me quite a bit but he seems to enjoy himself.

 

 

 

 

 

Lego Sadness

We had to go to Walmart one day and James was disappointed that it wasn't a Lego buying day. I knew I had to be strong and not give in. This is the result.

"Are you sure we can't buy Legos?..." (insert sad big brown eyes here)

Playground with Grandma Rose

Grandma Rose came over one day for a visit. It was a decent day so we headed to the playground because James loves the swings sooooooooooo much!

It turns out Grandma Rose loves the swings too! (Though she said it had been years and years since she's been on one...)

 

 

 

James terrifed us by climbing to the very top of the climbing rock. Grandma Rose was probably more nervous than this Mom.

Brick Stix

Tia ChaCha is a genius! She saw this product on Martha and sent some to James. He loved receiving a package but he also loved the idea of these stickers. They are removable stickers for Legos! You can create store fronts, outfits for your Lego dudes, and traffic signs. Genius!

 

 

 

Happy Easter

I'm pretty behind on my blog posts but here's an Easter treat for you. James visiting the Easter Bunny! We took him to the mall to see the EB and he really got into it. Know why? He had to tell the EB which Lego set he wants in his Easter Basket :)

We're making an attempt to get James on a bike. He's resisted everytime we've tried and now his bike is too small. We're excited to go bike shopping. I don't know about James though...
