First Fish!

I had a school event on Saturday (5/15) so the boys were on their own! I heard later that they ended up meeting up with Uncle Joe at the Lake for some fishing! And James caught his first fish!!

Uncle Joe had given James a fishing pole a while back, finally we've been able to let him use it. He's such a big boy, you know!
I caught a moment between Jim and James-

We have a lot of fun in our house :)

Wow

I need to blog soon! I haven't for so long but I haven't missed it too much. I find that weird.

Yay!

I'll have to write a longer update tomorrow but basically we are having great potty training success. The Red Room transition is happening on Monday WITH James! Yay! Take a bow, Sweet Baby Nene!

Potty news

This morning James led me to the spare bedroom and told me that he "needed" the Star Wars toy that we had hidden because he "pooped in the potty at school" and "peed at home". He really felt that he deserved the toy. We gave it to him because he is working hard on his potty skills. We didn't get a confirmation from his teachers yesterday that he did poop in the potty, or even how his potty training is going. They were extremely busy when Jim picked up yesterday afternoon. I guess we're not too happy with the current teachers- they seem overwhelmed and unfocused. At least that's the impression I am getting. I'll be really glad if James moves up to the Red Room very soon.

On Friday we did take a bag full of extra pants and underwear to his daycare. They FORGOT to do the training, as I discussed with them on Thursday afternoon but we did get a good report that he did well in pull-ups.

Yesterday (Monday) we brought the same bag of pants and underwear and I called the front desk. I spoke with the assistant director and she was going to make sure that the underwear went on James. She told us that the biggest tip she could give us is to completely ditch the pull-ups.

I went out last night with friends (wooohooo!) so that task was left to Jim. He was up for the challenge and told me that it went well. There were obviously some accidents at school and then one at home, but James told Jim three different times that he had to pee. Yeah! And this morning, I had to rush off to a morning meeting but when I was leaving I heard James tell his Daddy, "I have to pee! Hurry!" So they rushed to the bathroom and James forced a trickle. Yeah! It was off to daycare right after so I'm sure he's continuing to do well :)

We hope for a great report from daycare- hopefully James will have pooped and peed all day in the potty!

Happy Mother's Day!

We had a great Mother's Day weekend- spending some time with Grandma Laura yesterday and then seeing Grandma Rosie (Bucka) for a bit today.
I didn't take many pictures this weekend, and I also didn't star in many pictures myself so I don't have much to share in that way. I do have one attempt at a self portrait with James...

I do want to mention that I will be taking a (real) break from blogging and cooking this week because I have a busy work week. I'm in charge of a big event on Saturday for my school district and I'm a little stressed. I'm hoping everything will go smoothly but I just don't know.

Well, I hope the Moms had a great day! Happy Mother's Day to Grandma Julie too!

Upping our game

I learned yesterday that James' classmates will be moving up in the world- they will be advancing to the "Red Room" (we are currently in the Orange Room). James will not be able to advance because he is still in pull-ups. Not everyone is going, but most of his best buddies are. I talked with one of the teachers about putting him in big-boy-undies all day and letting him have accidents at school to teach him to potty train quickly. We think he is ready. I HOPE he is because I feel sad thinking that James will be left behind with the younger kids. I thought there was lots of time before this transition, so it was a shock that it's only weeks away.

Well, today James is wearing big boy undies. I brought lots of SW underwear and several pairs of extra pants. They are having James and his buddy Arthur go to the bathroom every half an hour. I hope he LEARNS and quickly!

May 3

The best little boy day ever! His Lego magazine came in the mail (new SW story in it!) AND a new Spiderman toothbrush! Yeah!

Ewwwwin

Getting ready for the day. Sunglasses? Check. Blaster? Check.

We went to the playground for a bit, we weren't meeting our friend Erin until 12:30 for lunch so we had some extra time. It was a little windy and cold, but it was a beautiful day.

James was excited to reach the playground!

Cold, windy day = Need lots of kleenex

I love this boy!

We sat on the dock by the lake, James renamed it the "boat".

We headed to Rosedale to meet Erin. Again, some time to kill so we went to Borders. James loved the moving stairs! There was a look of amazement on his face that I wish I could have captured!

Erin shows James how to color!

We are not spontaneous people but we decided at the last minute to go to Como's Japanese garden. Unfortunately we couldn't find a parking space. Como needs to work on that.
So we headed to the fairgrounds for the Green Expo. On the way to the building James held on to Erin's hand very tightly and spun her around. It was so cute! They had lots of fun. James was so pumped to see Erin. He remembered that "Erin likes to play".

James didn't get a nap on this day but he did okay. Jim had to carry him around at one point but we looked at the displays and "green" products. James really liked the wooden toys- especially a castle with knights and dragons- but it was a big investment. High quality toys, me thinks!
I thought this "art" was interesting- it was made of computer keys!

Later on, at home, James gives his Daddy a kiss. Daddy is his best friend! I am too!

May Day

We received a flyer from a local nursery about some events at their location. Free strawberry plantings for kids, a free planter for us, and some other fun activities for the family. We ended up really liking the garden center. James loved planting his own little strawberry plant. He filled the pot with soil and then helped pat the plant into the dirt. He has wanted to water the plant a few times since being home and I have to restrain him. He checked on the plant today and said "it's growing!" and "it gets sunshine!"

I really love this picture of James. I got dibs on it so no one make it into a mug or something. I should put copyrights on my pics!

I thought I was getting good pictures of James that day so later at home I asked James to smile for the camera. He doesn't like doing that.

He had a lot of fun with the balloon he got from the nursery. He punched it and basically beat the crap out of it.

He really was loving his Legos this weekend. He made spaceships- I'm sure they were Star Wars related. It's all we watch on TV anymore!

Daddy

Grandma R

I'm really late blogging about this fun time with Grandma Rosie last weekend. We went to her house for a visit and we went to the Playworks playground nearby. She was such a great sport, following James into the maze of a playground!

James found a racing video game. Who let him behind the wheel?! Scary that he'll one day drive :)

Grandma braved the heights and followed James all the way up this HUGE structure. James got to top and then cried. Grandma brought him down. She saved the day!

Playing another game.

At Grandma's house we had an early dinner, but only after James slayed Grandpa Larry with a lightsaber! Really, I didn't tell him to!

THAT was a good time :)
